FAQ

  • What is a psychiatrist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions. After graduating from medical school, a 4-year specialty residency is completed, with training in both office and hospital-based care. Psychiatrists order medical tests, and have expertise in both medication and non-medication treatments, including psychotherapy.
  • What ages are treated at Beacon Health and Wellness?
Beacon Health and Wellness treats adults age 18 and up.
  • What does treatment involve?
Initially there will be a comprehensive evaluation to understand symptoms and determine treatment options, which may involve psychopharmacology/medication management, plans to address lifestyle habits, and/or psychotherapy (talk therapy). If specialized services are needed that are not offered in this office (psychological tests, sleep studies, imaging, etc.), we will help coordinate this as part of your plan. In some cases, we may determine that treatment would be better in another setting altogether, and we would then offer you appropriate referrals.
  • How do appointments take place?
Services are provided in person with appointments at the Jersey City office and also through telepsychiatry.
  • How does Telepsychiatry work?
After your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an invite with a link to the meeting. The appointment is a real-time doctor's visit by video that is compliant with healthcare privacy and security regulations, including HIPAA. You must be physically in New York State or New Jersey during each appointment. Please note that Telehealth is not advised for high-risk situations.
  • How do I prepare for my Telepsychiatry visit?
During your appointments, you should be in a private space free from distractions. Plan to join about 5 minutes prior to the start time to allow for enough time to address any connectivity troubles that might arise.
  • What are my payment options?
Beacon Health and Wellness is in-network with some commercial insurance carriers. We will determine insurance eligibility prior to appointment and let you know what your copay responsibility is. Any copayment, co insurance and/or deductible owed will be due at the time of visit. We request that prior to all consultations, a credit card be provided to hold your first appointment and be kept on file for the duration of your treatment in the case of cancellation fees. If you do not wish to go through insurance, there is also a self pay fee schedule.
  • What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations or rescheduling of appointments must be made 24 hours prior to scheduled appointment. Medical emergencies or other extenuating circumstances are taken into consideration for rescheduling. In the case an appointment is not cancelled or changed within the specified time, your credit card may be charged a cancellation fee.
  • Are evaluations for work, benefits, or legal issues performed with the practice?"
No, services in this practice are for the purpose of your treatment, and are not evaluations intended for other purposes. We are not able to perform evaluations for disability, worker's compensation, divorce or custody, other legal or administrative matters.
